State police are asking the public for assistance as they piece together details about an early afternoon shooting Friday on Interstate 94 in Porter County in which a driver was injured when their Jeep Grand Cherokee was riddled with bullets.
The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to a release from the Lowell Post of the Indiana State Police. Two juveniles who also were in the Jeep were not wounded.
ISP’s Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call at around 1:20 p.m. Aug. 9 about an interstate shooting on I-94, police said.
Troopers responded to the 28-mile-marker eastbound, just west of the truck weigh station and east of Indiana 49, where they discovered the Jeep parked on the right shoulder with several bullet holes in the driver’s side.
The driver of the Jeep, who was injured as a result of the shooting, received first aid and then was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to their lower extremity.
The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division at the Lowell Post responded to the scene and is requesting the public’s assistance in the investigation.
