State salutes schools with top reading scores

Several local elementary schools will be honored at a Thursday press conference at the Statehouse for their success on the 2023 IREAD state assessment.

State Secretary of Education Katie Jenner is recognizing 242 public and private schools where at least 95% of students passed the state exam. That represents the state’s literacy goal.

Local schools being recognized include:

Valparaiso Community Schools: Central, Jefferson, Northview, Parkview, Heavilin

Duneland School Corp.: Jackson

Porter Township: Porter Lakes

Union Township: Union Center, Simatovich

Crown Point Community School Corp.: McArthur, Solon Robinson

School Town of Munster: Elliott, Frank H. Hammond

Lake Central School Corp.: Bibich, Protsman

Tri-Creek: Tri-Creek School Corp., Lake Prairie

Diocese of Gary: Notre Dame, St. Casimir, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary Catholic Community, St. Mary, St. Paul, St. Thomas More, St. John the Evangelist.
