Lollapalooza could see a damp start with thunderstorms predicted for Thursday, but forecasters said festivalgoers will see a weekend of mostly sunshine as the Grant Park music festival stretches to Sunday.
Gino Izzi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Chicago, said Thursday morning would bring showers and thunderstorms ending midmorning. The day was shaping up to be warm and humid, with highs in the mid to upper 80-degree range and possible strong thunderstorms in midafternoon and stretching into early evening, he said.
Friday could also bring rain and a lower chance of thunderstorms and a high temperature forecast in the low 80s, Izzi said.
Saturday and Sunday will be much less humid and bring “lots of sunshine, with highs in the mid- to upper-80s,” he said. “It will still be warm out but the humidity is going be much more comfortable.”
Those planning to attend the festival — or anyone who will be out for long stretches — should make sure they’re wearing sunscreen, Izzi said. People who are drinking alcohol, which has a dehydrating effect, should consider having water or electrolytes in between drinks and imbibe in moderation, he added.
The first festival acts will begin in Grant Park at noon Thursday.
