Student accused of having unloaded gun at Plank Junior High School in Oswego

A student is accused of having an unloaded gun at Plank Junior High School in Oswego on Tuesday, prompting an hour-long “hold-in-place” at the school, according to a news release from the Oswego Police Department.

Police were notified at around 1 p.m. by school staff that a 12-year-old girl, whose name was not released because of her age, had been seen with a gun, the release said. She was arrested Tuesday afternoon, and the school at 510 Secretariat Lane lifted the “hold-in-place” after about an hour, according to the release.

The student faces multiple charges, according to the release, including one felony count of disorderly conduct, one  misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of unauthorized storage and possession of a weapon.

She is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center awaiting a hearing, officials said.
