A student allegedly with a firearm at TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804 in Highland Park was taken into custody Tuesday according to the City of Highland Park Police Department.
At 1:39 p.m., the department responded to a report of a student with a firearm, the release said. According to the release, the juvenile was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. There is “no indication at this time there was an intent to harm others,” the release said.
Preliminary investigation found no additional suspects or threats to the surrounding area and indicates it was an isolated incident. However, “out of an abundance of caution,” the department will increase patrols near all Highland Park schools.
Because of the age of the individual in custody, the Juvenile Court Act prohibits the City from sharing further information with the public, the release said.
