Sunny conditions expected with highs in the mid-50s over the holiday weekend

Weather officials are expecting sunny conditions with temperatures staying in the mid 50s this Memorial Day weekend.

Current morning conditions Friday at O’Hare International Airport are overcast at 48 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport, conditions are mostly cloudy at 49 degrees. As the day progresses, conditions are expected to shift to sunny with highs reaching to 57 degrees, officials said.

Friday, Chicago beaches opened for the summer season. Officials cautioned the water temperature is still cold, bringing the risk of hypothermia to those who dare to swim this early in the season. Cold water can cause loss of muscle control, loss of body heat up to 25 times higher than the air and hypothermia can set in shortly after entering the water, officials said.

On Friday night, temperatures are expected to dip to around 44 degrees.

On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to stay in the mid 50s with sunny conditions. On Memorial Day, temperatures are expected to reach 58.
