Teen charged after Saturday shooting at Chicago Ridge Mall wounded 17-year-old

A 17-year-old has been charged after a shooting outside Chicago Ridge Mall wounded another teen, Chicago Ridge police said Monday.

Felony charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon were approved against the teen, who police are not identifying, by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, police said.

Police said they responded to a call of shots fired shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday outside Dick’s Sporting Goods, 9800 S. Ridgeland Ave.

Four people were involved in a verbal argument inside the store and ended up in a physical altercation between two of them outside near the parking lot, police said.

During the fight, four shots were fired, and one of the rounds struck a 17-year-old male in the torso, police said. He was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and later released, police said.

Police said the handgun used in the shooting was recovered, and that due to the ages of both the suspect and the victim, their names are not being released.

Police said the 17-year-old who was charged is being held pending a detention hearing.
