Teenage boy charged in Thursday slaying of 43-year-old woman in South Shore

A 17-year-old boy was charged in a Thursday fatal shooting of a 43-year-old woman in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago police said.

The teenage boy turned himself over to police about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue and was identified as the person who fatally shot the victim hours earlier in a residence in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue, police said.

Tatanisha Jackson was inside her residence in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday when a 17-year-old boy pulled out a gun and shot her, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Jackson suffered four gunshots to the head and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Police said they recovered a firearm at the scene.

. A police spokesperson declined to explain the relationship between Jackson and the boy. A relative of Jackson’s declined to comment.

A detention hearing was scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
