National Weather Service officials said there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon hours and again around midnight.
Officials said Friday conditions are expected to be mostly cloudy with temperatures near 81 degrees, with a 40 percent chance of showers in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana. Showers were most likely around noon Friday, officials said.
Friday night, there is a 50 to 70 percent chance of thunderstorms and showers after midnight, with possible damaging wind up to 60 mph and up to a quarter-size hail. Possible thunderstorms may become widespread Friday evening and overnight and a few have the potential of being strong with damaging winds, officials said.
Current conditions at Midway Airport is light rain at 71 degrees, and farther northwest at O’Hare International Airport conditions is overcast at 68 degrees.
