Tinley Park man charged with kidnapping after 17-hour Halloween standoff with police

A Tinley Park man has been charged with two felonies after barricading himself and two women inside his home for nearly 17 hours on Halloween, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Sunday.

Officers arrived at 54-year-old Jason Soltis’ home on the 7900 block of South Harlem Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m. Thursday but did not gain entry until shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers heard a single gunshot before entering the home, but neither woman was shot. One was bound at the ankles and the wrists and the other appeared unharmed. Both were transported to a local area hospital for medical evaluations.

Soltis, who was charged with aggravated kidnapping with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm, is expected to have an initial appearance at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse Sunday.
