“Titanique the Musical,” a critically acclaimed and highly successful off-Broadway parody of the famous 1997 movie “Titanic,” 1990s pop culture and the song stylings of Céline Dion, is sailing to the Broadway Playhouse (175 E. Chestnut St.) for an eight-week run next spring, from March 25 to May 18, 2025.
The campy, comedic attraction will appear on the subscription seasons of both Broadway in Chicago and Porchlight Music Theatre Chicago. This will be, in essence, a Porchlight production developed for Chicago.
Broadway in Chicago, a commercial presenter, has been partnering of late with local nonprofit theaters such as Porchlight and TimeLine Theatre Company in its smallest venue, located behind the Water Tower shopping mall.
Originally produced in New York by Eva Price, “Titanique” comes with a live band and parodies such Dion anthems as as “My Heart Will Go On,” “All By Myself,” and “To Love You More.” Its impressive original star, Marla Mindelle, co-wrote the piece with Constantine Rousouli and Tye Blue. Rousouli also was in the original cast; the Chicago crew has yet to be announced.
“Titanique,” which has accurately sold itself as both “Forbidden Broadway”-style funny and as a home for powerhouse vocal performances, has announced plans for numerous global ports of call, including London, Montreal, Toronto and Sydney. So far, it has declined to move to Broadway, now a costly proposition for even the most popular and skillfully performed of spoofs.
