According to the American Trucking Associations, trucks moved nearly $940.8 billion worth of goods and employed over 8.4 million people in 2022. The staggering size of this number demonstrates the vital role this sector plays in keeping the U.S. economy afloat. Palcauskas, owner of Pagnali Trans Inc., is one of the industry’s rising stars because he has both a modern outlook and a profound respect for its history.
The trucking industry was an early interest of his. There were more than just “familiar faces in the business,” as Palcauskas remembers. As business partner Jokubas Pasakinskas put it, “It was a symphony of connections, opinions, mentorships and the intoxicating promise of endless opportunities.”
However, there are obstacles in the business environment. In 2023, the trucking industry has had to deal with higher fuel prices, stricter emission regulations, a lack of drivers and a shaky global economy. While many of Palcauskas’ rivals look for quick fixes, he is focused on the long haul. “We’re in a period of reinvention,” he says. “This sort of problem necessitates creative solutions.”
For instance, he is not just increasing his employees’ pay to address driver shortages; he is also creating an environment where drivers feel appreciated, which has resulted in increased word-of-mouth and increased employee longevity. In the face of economic uncertainty, Palcauskas is committed to developing close bonds with his customers as a means of ensuring their financial security and protecting them from the effects of market swings.
His leadership philosophy centers on the importance of making quick decisions while maintaining composure. “It’s a fast-paced industry,” Palcauskas says. “The choices we make today will have an effect on our schedules, deliveries and bottom lines tomorrow. However, efficiency must not be sacrificed for obscurity. I always encourage my team to look for ways around problems rather than dwelling on them.”
His lofty goals for the future reflect this solution-focused mindset. He envisions a vast system with 500 trucks, multiple operational hubs and a web of routes that spans the entire country.

Palcauskas is dedicated to developing his knowledge and skills, regularly attending seminars about transportation. “Every seminar, every handshake, every discussion — it’s a step forward, a lesson learned,” he says.
When thinking back on his life, Palcauskas appreciates the lessons that each choice and risk taught him. “I’ve been fortunate,” he reflects. “I’ve consulted seasoned professionals before making any major moves. Their insights have shown me the way.”
The fact that Palcauskas regularly puts in 80 or more hours per week demonstrates his commitment to his job. However, he makes time for physical fitness and family because he is a firm believer in the importance of a healthy mind and body. His vision is what motivates him, but he recharges and refocuses during times of rest and reflection.
