Tornado alarms to sound at 11 a.m. Wednesday as part of statewide drill

National Weather Service officials planned a statewide tornado drill late Wednesday morning as part of its Illinois Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

Officials want Illinois to use this drill to form action plans if a tornado is approaching.

At 11 a.m., sirens are set to blare in Illinois, officials said. Everyone should use the time to ensure you have weather safety procedures at home, work, school, place of worship and on the road, officials said.

Decision-makers and overseers of large groups should review plans to ensure there is adequate means to monitor weather and to shelter people, officials said.

Current conditions at O’Hare International Airport is fog and mist at 40 degrees. Conditions are the same at Midway Airport at 42 degrees.

Officials expect conditions to clear Wednesday with temperatures reaching at least 43 degrees.
