An Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102 teacher is among 30 educators named finalists for the industry-esteemed Golden Apple award.
Amy Wacker, a third grade teacher at Tripp Elementary School in Buffalo Grove, was one of four selected from Lake County schools for the “Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.”
“These finalists have shown outstanding commitment and made a positive impact on students’ growth and learning, significantly contributing to their academic and personal development,” said Alan Mather, president of the Golden Apple Foundation, which bestows the honor.
The nonprofit organization gives the award annually, paying tribute to teachers’ and other education leaders’ “crucial role in shaping the future of education and inspiring the next generation.”
According to the release, the teachers selected as finalists have demonstrated their impact on students’ learning and growth. The award is also used to raise the profile of being an educator.
“Amid teacher shortages, it’s crucial to recognize educators … for their significant impact on students and the broader educational landscape,” said Alicia Winckler, CEO of Golden Apple. “Such recognition is essential for promoting the critical importance of the teaching profession.”
Named finalists for now, the foundation is set to name the 2024 award recipients later this spring, the release states. In addition to a $5,000 cash award, winners are provided a spring sabbatical by Northwestern University at no cost, the release states. The winning teachers also become a fellow of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators.
Wacker’s status as a finalist was top of page in the SD102 electronic newsletter last month, where she was lauded for the honor.
“Congratulations to Amy on being one of 30 finalists; we are so proud to have her in D102!” school officials wrote in the newsletter.
