Truck driver killed after his semi collides with another in unincorporated West Dundee

A collision between two semi trucks Tuesday morning in unincorporated West Dundee killed one of the drivers and critically injured the other, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred about 7:40 a.m. on Miller Road at Route 31. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a Freightliner truck was headed eastbound on Miller Road when they went through a stop sign at Route 31 and struck a Mack semi that was southbound on Route 31, a sheriff’s office news release.

The collision resulted in the Freightliner rolling over and its driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, being ejected from the truck’s cab, the release said. They were pronounced dead at the scene but their identity withheld pending notification of his family.

The other driver, whose truck ended up in a field east of Route 31, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Officials said the extent of their injuries was not known, the release said.

Sheriff’s office investigators, assisted by the Illinois State Police and the Kane County Drone Unit, are reconstructing the crash.
