Two killed in Deerfield, Antioch-area crashes

A woman was killed over the weekend when her car ran into a popular Deerfield sandwich shop, and an Antioch man died in a separate single-car crash, according to authorities.

In the Deerfield crash, the victim was identified as Jareline Martinez, 25, of Waukegan, by the Lake County Coroner’s Office

Police said Martinez died of injuries she received when she drove her car into a building in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road in Deerfield at 2:23 a.m. Saturday.

The building she crashed into houses Tony’s Sub, a popular sandwich shop.

Police and firefighters responded to the location and found Martinez’s car, a 2002 Honda Accord, heavily damaged and on its roof. Martinez was the sole occupant of her vehicle, authorities said.

In the Antioch area crash, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Joseph Eli of Neenah, Wisconsin, was killed when he crashed his car into a tree early Monday.

The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. near the intersection of Grass Lake Road and Bluff Lane.

Elia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his 2009 Pontiac Vibe, police said.
