Two people were killed over the weekend in separate traffic accidents in Beach Park, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
A motorcyclist was killed at around 11:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Aviation Drive and Green Bay Road when his 2007 Suzuki GSXR600 hit a Kia sedan.
The cyclist, police said, was headed south on Green Bay Road at what police called an “excessively fast” speed. The Kia was northbound on Green Bay and making a left turn onto westbound Chaplin Street when the motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the Kia.
The cyclist, a 56-year-old Beach Park man, was ejected. The Kia driver and his passenger, a 23-year-old Beach Park woman, were not injured.
The second fatal crash happened at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Lewis and Leland Avenue and it claimed the life of an 18-year-old Waukegan man.
Police said the multi-vehicle crash happened when a Zion man who was headed south on Lewis failed to slow for traffic in his lane. His Toyota Avalon struck two vehicles in the southbound lane before the Toyota crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Chevrolet Malibu driven by the Waukegan man.
The Toyota driver suffered minor injuries but a passenger in the car suffered serious injuries, police said. The Waukegan man was brought to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims. The crashes remain under investigation.
