Two Chicago men were charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors for a theft at a Jewel-Osco grocery store in Wilmette on New Year’s Eve, according to the Wilmette Police Department.
The two men, identified as Tyshon McClure, 24, of the 5800 block of West Division Street, Chicago, and Burt Robinson Jr., 28, of the 1000 block of North Lamon Avenue, Chicago, are charged with robbing a Jewel-Osco grocery store at 411 Green Bay Road in Wilmette around 12:54 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024, and injuring two Jewel-Osco employees in the process.
According to Wilmette police, an officer located McClure and Robinson in a vehicle with two other passengers in the 1600 block of Wilmette Avenue after the robbery. Police attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the suspects fled.
Wilmette investigators later found the vehicle in Northfield on Meadowview Road just west of Hibbard Road. Two of the vehicle’s occupants were arrested near the vehicle, and McClure and Robinson attempted to flee again.
With assistance from the Northbrook, Glencoe, Kenilworth and Northfield police departments, Wilmette police were able to find McClure and Robinson. A drone and a K9 were used in the search, per Wilmette police.
The two unnamed occupants arrested near the vehicle were not charged with a crime.
One of the men charged in the incident was later identified as an offender from a previous robbery at the same grocery store, and charged with that robbery and several other robberies in Westchester and Hillside, according to police.
McClure is charged with: robbery, retail theft, more than $300; aggravated fleeing; resisting a peace officer; and driving on a suspended license, according to a news release. Robinson is charged with: robbery; retail theft, more than $300; three counts of aggravated battery; resisting a peace officer; and a warrant for another incident.
Robinson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 17 at the Skokie Courthouse and McClure had his initial hearing on Jan. 2, per Cook County Circuit Court records. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.
