Two people were killed and three others hospitalized after a shooting erupted early Sunday morning at a Hammond bar.
Around 4 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at Portside Pub, located at located at 1516 Indianapolis Boulevard, according to a news release from the Hammond Police Department. When officers arrived, they found five people had been shot; two were pronounced dead at the scene, while three were sent to local hospitals. Of those hospitalized, two are in serious condition while one is in stable condition, the release stated.
Police said preliminarily investigation indicates that it was a domestic-related incident, but the investigation remains ongoing.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office hasn’t released the victims’ names, pending notification of family.
One of the southbound lanes of Indianapolis Boulevard was temporarily closed as police investigated the scene, according to the release.
