Unidentified woman pronounced dead after being burned in abandoned building in Englewood

Chicago firefighters responded to a call of a fire at an abandoned building Monday night and found a woman on fire and unresponsive in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 10 p.m., police were called to a fire at an abandoned building in the 5900 block of South Morgan Street. When they arrived officers found a woman approximately 50 years old on fire and unresponsive, officials said.

The officers tried to extinguish the flames and when fire officials arrived they were able to put out the fire. Paramedics arrived to treat the victim who suffered multiple burns to the body but she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and the Chicago Fire Department Bomb and Arson Unit was investigating.
