Veggie Fest, focused on plant-based diets and healthy living, set for this weekend

The 14th annual Veggie Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11, at Danada South Park.

Billed as one of the largest food festivals in the country, Veggie Fest will have more than 25 food booths, 20 food demonstrations from chefs around the country, 100 vendor tents specializing in healthy living, and live music. Entry to the event is free.

Festival-goers can sample cuisines from around the world with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free choices.

Some of the entrees featured include a Buddha bowl with brown rice or quinoa, veggie pizza, vegan kabobs, vegan pork and beef tacos, a garlic mushroom ramen bowl, a falafel sandwich and a Thai crunch salad. Treats include Hawaiian-style acai bowls, smoothies, cheesecake, fresh fruit, beignets and Italian ice cream.

Tickets for the International Food Court can be bought on site for $1 per ticket. Food prices range from between $3 and $15.

A variety of children’s activities are planned, including face painting, games, live music and story-telling.

Speakers will cover a variety of topics, including making healthy and sustainable choices, meditation, holistic nutrition, plant-based diets and heart disease.

Participants can also enjoy free yoga sessions throughout the two-day event.

Veggie Fest is one of the largest wellness and vegetarian food festivals in North America. The park is located at 2701 Navistar Circle in Lisle.
