Two men were fatally shot Sunday night in Waukegan, and their bodies were found just two blocks apart, authorities said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Leobardo Diaz, 28, and Fredi Aquilar Carrasco, 31, both of Waukegan.
Waukegan police were called to the 1900 block of West Greenwood Avenue at around 7:18 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. They found a victim later identified as Diaz, who was brought to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
Later that night, police were informed that a second gunshot victim had been discovered in the yard of a residence in the 1700 block of West Greenwood. That victim, later identified as Aquilar Carrasco, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Autopsies were performed on Monday. Diaz died from a gunshot wound to the back; Aquilar Carrasco died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner’s office said.
Further details were not immediately available.
