Waubonsee Community College to hold Cruise Night

Waubonsee Community College will host its first-ever Cruise Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, near the north entrance of its Sugar Grove campus at Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.

Visitors can display their restored cars or motorcycles at the event. Carousel Sound will be on hand to provide music. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic or enjoy food trucks providing tacos and ice cream.

Kane Forest Foundation to hold golf outing

The Kane Forest Preserve Foundation will hold its inaugural golf outing on Thursday, Sept. 12, at Hughes Creek Golf Course at 1749 Spring Valley Drive in Elburn.

The golf outing will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include 18 holes of golf; breakfast, lunch and dinner; beverage tickets; and opportunities to win raffle prizes.

Individual golfers can register for $150, while a foursome can register for $400. Every dollar raised from this event will directly support the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation’s mission to preserve and enhance Kane County’s natural areas, including trails, trees and wildlife habitats, event organizers said.

Recycling and shredding event set

State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, will host a Recycle and Shred Day event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 13, at 1677 Montgomery Road in Aurora.

The event will offer electronics recycling, paper shredding and a collection of cell phones, eyeglasses and lightly-used books, event organizers said.

Due to a change in state law, medications and sharps will not be collected this year. Instead, they can be dropped off at nearby participating pharmacies listed at medtakebackillinois.org, officials said.

The event is open to the public and will be held rain or shine, according to organizers.

The event also provides an opportunity to recycle approved electronic items, including computer towers, microwave ovens, DVD players, VCRs, printers, fax machines and video game consoles. However, TVs and computer monitors will not be accepted.

Drug drop-off planned

State Reps. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva, and Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, are teaming up with the Elburn Police Department for a Prescription Drug Drop-Off event from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the police department, 301 E. North St.  in Elburn.

This free outdoor event will allow residents to remain in their vehicles while dropping off unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs, event organizers said.

Accepted medications that can be disposed of include tablets, capsules and other solid forms of prescription drugs; patches, vaping devices and cartridges with lithium batteries removed; prescription ointments; pet medications; and vitamins.

Restricted items that will not be accepted include liquids, including intravenous solutions; syringes; needles; and illegal drugs.

Senior Services plans magic show, aerobics program

The activity department of Senior Services Associates will host a free magic show featuring magician Christopher George at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at its center at 2111 Plum St. in Aurora.

There is no charge for the program. Registration is not required for the show, which will be about one hour in length, officials said.

Also at the center, an aerobics class will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15.

The 45-minute class is for those 60 years old and older. Seniors must register in advance for this class by calling the center at 630 897-4035. Class size will be limited.

Immigration focus of forum

The Kane County Democratic Women will host a forum called “Immigration 101: A Path Forward in Illinois and Why It Matters” from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Geneva Public Library, 227 S. Seventh St in Geneva.

The purpose of the forum is to bring the community together to learn from experts about the laws and policies that make up America’s immigration system, its history and the current challenges and opportunities, event organizers said.

The panel for the forum will include a moderator and four speakers.

Meeting set on Geneva road program

The city of Geneva’s 2024 street improvement program is scheduled to start in mid- to late July with eight resurfacing and drainage projects on the docket, city officials said.

Residents looking to get more details on the upcoming construction are invited to an informational meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St.

At the meeting, Geneva Public Works staff members will provide an overview of the planned construction activity and will be available to answer questions, officials said.

Project locations and a map concerning the street improvement program are available on the city’s website at www.geneva.il.us.
