Waukegan man arrested in fatal Beach Park shooting

A Waukegan man has been charged in a fatal shooting earlier this month in Beach Park, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Cyncere L. Tillman, 24, was arrested Tuesday in the 300 block of Washington Street and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tavontee Fox of Waukegan, police said.

Fox, 24, was shot to death a little after noon on Feb. 9 in the 39300 block of Melbourne Court, police said.

Police said that Fox and Tillman were associates and had arranged to meet at that address.

Fox and another man drove up and met with Tillman. An argument ensued and Tillman pulled out a pistol and began firing at Fox, who was in the passenger seat, as well as the driver, police said.

They drove away and the driver dropped Fox at Vista East Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds, authorities said.

“Our detectives have been investigating this homicide nonstop since it occurred,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “Because of their dedication and tenacious investigative work, the man responsible for this crime is in custody and charged with murder. We are also thankful for the ongoing collaboration with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.”
