A woman was fatally shot Tuesday inside a vehicle in Waukegan, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.
Coroner Jennifer Banek’s office identified the victim Wednesday as Yessenia Novoa-Poveda, 48, of Waukegan.
Following a Wednesday autopsy, the coroner’s office said she died of a gunshot wound to the back.
The shooting took place near the intersection of Melrose and Elmwood avenues, and that Novoa-Poveda was shot while inside a vehicle, the coroner said.
She was brought to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead, the coroner said.
The shooting remains under investigation. Waukegan police did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
