West Pullman man, 18, charged in shooting of cousin, 12, authorities say

A West Pullman man who allegedly shot his 12-year-old cousin in the chest earlier this month was accused of attempted murder Monday, authorities said.

Chicago police charged Deandre Warren, 18, with attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated battery to a child.

Prosecutors allege he fired a gun equipped with a laser attachment at his younger cousin, wounding him in the arm, chest and abdomen.

Warren fled the scene of the shooting in the North Kenwood neighborhood shortly after it occurred on Aug. 5, prosecutors said. Other family members, including children, were present during the shooting, according to court documents. Police said they arrested him Friday in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.

At a hearing Monday morning, Cook County Judge Thomas Nowinski ordered Warren held in jail pending trial, records show. Warren is next set to appear in court Aug. 30.
