Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy will headline Chicago Live on Navy Pier

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy will headline September’s Chicago Live arts festival on Navy Pier, according to an announcement Wednesday.

Tweedy will play a free acoustic set on Saturday, the first night of the two-day event slated for Sept. 21-22. He’ll play on the Lake Stage in Polk Bros. Park, just to the west of the Pier.

Chicago Live is billed as the largest free performing arts festival in the Midwest, with some 100 local groups performing on five stages. Other headlining acts include the Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Second City, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago Philharmonic, Black Ensemble Theater and Blue Man Group, as well as Ginger Minj (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Felicia Fields and Oliv Blu (“The Voice”). The rest of the lineup of the fourth annual Chicago Live was announced in June; more information at NavyPier.org.

Tweedy, who lives in Chicago, is in keeping with the “local” in the local-performers lineup.

“Chicago’s lakefront is one of my favorite places on Earth and I’ll jump at any opportunity to play on its shores,” he said in a statement in the announcement.
