WMAQ-Channel 5 news anchor Alex Maragos and his wife, Gabriella, in June paid $1.525 million for a four-bedroom, restored vintage house in Kenilworth.
A Chicago native, Maragos, 33, joined NBC 5 in 2015 as a general assignment reporter. He currently anchors the station’s 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. newscasts. And he recently wrapped up three weeks of covering the 2024 Olympics in Paris for NBC 5.
In Kenilworth, Maragos and his wife bought a house that was built in 1903 but that underwent a full renovation in 2015. Features include 3-1/2 bathrooms, a family room with a fireplace, radiant heating on all floors, a wrought iron staircase, and a kitchen with an island, a Wolf range and a Bosch dishwasher. Other features include a primary bedroom suite with a Carrara marble bathroom, a second upstairs bathroom with double sinks and subway tile and a lower level with a rec room, a fourth bedroom and a bonus room.
Outside on the property are two bluestone patios, an extensively renovated garage and newer trees and plantings.
Maragos did not respond to two requests for comment about the purchase. Katie Moor, who represented the couple in buying the house, declined to comment on the transaction.
The house had been listed in late April for $1.399 million and went under contract just five days later. It sold for 9 percent above its asking price.
The house had a $21,113 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.
