A young woman died after emergency workers pulled her from the Chicago River in the city’s Riverwalk park Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Police said a 22-year-old woman sitting by the river lowered herself into the water around 2:30 p.m. before Chicago Fire Department medics pulled her out and took her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
About 100 people watched the paramedics perform chest compressions on the riverwalk near Dearborn Street and West Wacker Drive.
The woman, who hadn’t yet been identified Tuesday evening, was pronounced dead just before 3:30 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Police were investigating the woman’s death.
