Woman, her 3-year-old and mom carjacked in Park Ridge at convenience store

Park Ridge police responded to a report of a carjacking Thursday night, June 27, around 10:26 p.m., and said a woman had parked her 2024 white Jeep Grand Cherokee outside a convenience store in the 800 block of Higgins Road, Park Ridge, to run in and buy some milk, leaving her three-year-old child and her mother in the back seat.

According to a police news release, a male about 19 to 25 years of age with a slim build and wearing a blue baseball hat, dark shirt and blue jeans approached the vehicle, displayed a handgun and told the rear seat occupants to get out, which they did.

The victim driver walked out of the store and the suspect pointed the gun at her and demanded her wallet, which she handed over, per police. The suspect got into the Jeep and drove it away.

After the aggravated vehicular hijacking, Illinois State Police located the vehicle, which had been involved in a crash, in the area of 34th and Halsted Streets in Chicago, according to the release. The suspect had fled on foot, and state police searched the area but did not find the suspect.

Police are continuing to investigate.
