A woman was treated for smoke inhalation and three town houses sustained an estimated, collective, $500,000 in damage following a fire on Easter at subdivision in Carpentersville.
The Carpentersville Fire Department received a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. Sunday from a neighbor who saw the garage of a townhome in the 1900 block of Cobblestone Drive fully engulfed in flames, said fire Chief Bill Anaszewicz.
The fire was in the Silverstone Lake subdivision and caused significant damage to a total of three townhomes. A woman only identified as being in her 50s was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for treatment, authorities said.
Firefighters were told there was someone in the townhome where the garage was on fire; it was the middle of three units, Anaszewicz said. The emergency responders found the woman on the second floor of the unit. Paramedics took her to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was later taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for treatment related to smoke inhalation, said Anaszewicz.
Firefighters from Algonquin, Barrington Countryside, Rutland Dundee, East Dundee, West Dundee and the Hanover Township Emergency Services Department assisted with the call. It took crews about 35 minutes to extinguish the fire, the chief said.
While the other two units may remain occupied, Anaszewicz said the estimated damage to all three townhomes was about $500,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
