Workshop to appeal property taxes set for Aug. 15; Maine Township to aid in process

As Maine Township gears up to help residents with property tax appeals to the Cook County Board of Review, Township Assessor Susan Moylan-Krey will co-host a property tax appeal workshop with Board of Review Commissioner Samantha Steele on Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge.

Attendees are welcome to arrive as early as 6 p.m. to consult with an analyst about filing an appeal. The workshop will include a brief presentation at 6:30, followed by one-on-one assistance with appeals and any related questions.

The Township Assessor’s Office will also assist residents in filing their 2024 appeals through Aug. 28. This deadline ensures that the township has ample time to transmit all appeals to the Cook County Board of Review by the county’s Sept. 3 deadline.

Residents wishing to file an appeal can do so by calling the Maine Township Assessor’s Office at 224-257-4830. Taxpayers must be the owner, former owner liable for the tax, beneficiary of the trust, or executor of the property to file an appeal.

For residents preferring to file their own appeals, the office will provide comparable property data to assist with the process.

The Cook County Board of Review will send decision letters to residents within approximately three to four months, per Maine Township. Any changes will be reflected on the 2024 Second Installment Property Tax Bill.

Park Ridge and parts of Niles and Morton Grove west of Harlem Avenue are included in Maine Township, as well as parts of Glenview and Des Plaines.
