Christ Baptist Church: 4700 E. 7th Ave. — The church is commemorating its 43rd anniversary with two anointed Sunday morning services at 10 a.m. on Aug. 11 and Aug. 18. The theme for the occasion is “Planted for a Purpose,” and founding Pastor/Emeritus Rev. Dr. Colvin Blanford will serve as a guest speaker August 11, with Pastor James Robinson of St. James Missionary Baptist Church will deliver the morning message on Aug. 18. Holy Angels Cathedral: 640 Tyler St. — The Diocese of Gary will host a Day of Service on Aug. 17 as part of its Summer Eucharistic Revival, starting with a 9 a.m. Mass at the cathedral followed by service activities, including volunteering at the Saints Monica and Luke food pantry, landscaping at diocesan cemeteries, packing donations for area migrant workers, and more. The event will conclude with a 1 p.m. Community Cookout with the Franciscans.

Mary Bercik Memorial Pavilion: 1500 Park Rd. — Join Temple Israel Sisterhood on Sunday evening at a concert with the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra & Chorus, conducted by Temple Israel member Robert Vodnoy. A potluck picnic will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30 pm, featuring everything from symphonies to show tunes. Bring a chair and a dish to share.
