Cubs vs. Mets prediction

Following a three-game home sweep of the Astros, the Cubs routed the Red Sox on Friday night, 7-1. However, disaster struck on Saturday as the Red Sox won, 17-0, to snap Chicago’s hot streak, followed by a Boston walk-off victory on Sunday, 5-4.

The Cubs will look to pick up the pieces on Monday at Citi Field behind right-hander Jameson Taillon, who owns a 2-0 record through his first two starts, although both wins came at home against the Marlins and Astros.

In the two victories, Taillon allowed one earned run apiece, while the Cubs jumped out to big leads each time.

The Mets avoided a home sweep on Sunday by walking off the Cardinals in 11 innings, 4-2. Since pulling off a pair of wins as heavy road underdogs against the Dodgers, the Mets were in the midst of a 1-5 slump prior to Sunday’s victory.

Luis Severino has been up and down in his first season with the Mets after spending the first eight years of his career in the Bronx with the Yankees.

Severino has posted a 2-2 record and 2.67 ERA through five starts, while yielding two earned runs in his past two home outings.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor struggled against the Cardinals in the first two losses by going 1-of-9 before hitting the game-tying homer in Sunday’s win.

Cubs vs. Mets pick

The Cubs have won four consecutive series openers, while outscoring their opponents 25-8 in this span.

In Taillon’s previous start against the Mets last August, he allowed a two-run homer in the first inning to first baseman Pete Alonso but settled down to deliver seven strong innings in a 3-2 comeback victory at Citi Field.

This line has moved from the Mets as a -130 favorite to -152 at FanDuel.

We’re not buying the public. Instead, look for the Cubs to grab a road win in Game 1.
