Letter: Illini basketball gave us a memorable season

I’m writing in appreciation of coach Brad Underwood and the 2023-24 Fighting Illini men’s basketball team.

Before running into the wall that is 7-foot-2-inch, 280 pound Donovan Clingan of Connecticut, the Illini treated us to a memorable season. They won 29 games, including three in the Big 10 tournament which propelled them to winning the tournament championship. They reached the Elite 8 in the ultimate college basketball challenge, the NCAA men’s tournament.

So, this shoutout goes to Coach Underwood and the players for the excitement and enjoyment they provided us this season. After the final game, tearful sophomore Ty Rodgers (Thornton Township High School alum) spoke of the close bond between the players.

Hopefully, the bond these players forged will last long into their careers, whether it be professional basketball here or abroad, a coaching job or the business world. Thanks, basketball Illini! I-L-L . . .
